Family...isn't it about Time?

Today, I took the moving truck back to the rental place. I was really glad to be rid of it. Even though it was brand spanking new, it wasn't something I would want to drive ever again. I ended up turning it in a day early, but just couldn't handle the weight of liabilty that rested on my shoulders.
Another fun thing today: My parents rented a dumpster. A 20 foot long dumpster is now taking up residence in my driveway. Tomorrow begins the festival of dumping! Yes indeedy folks, I am the lucky winner who gets to rifle through 30 years of life lived and forgotten. (But first, tonight I need to shoot off all those bug bombs we got) It should be interesting, if not fun.

This next comment may come out all wrong, and I hope you don't get the wrong impression of me. Let me begin by giving you an idea of what my life has been like these last 3 years. While I worked from 8 to 5 Mon-Fri, my 2 roommates worked nights. So, when I got home from work, I had the place to myself. I could watch TV, read, cook, clean(snicker), chat on the phone, invite friends over..whatever. Most of the time, I either watched TV or read a book. We would usually plan a get together on Saturday night, but rarely attended any singles activities...
Sound anti-social? Maybe. I just lost interest in playing sand volleyball, or scripture chase scavenger hunts.

Now that I am 27, single, unemployed, and living in my parents basement(could it get any worse?!), I am seeing a lot more of my family than I am used to. Scratch that, I am seeing a lot more of PEOPLE in general than I am used to. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my family and missed them a whole big bunch when I lived in the Midwest, but it will definitely be a transition to go from who I was, to part of the family again.

About four years ago, I had to move back in with my folks...(this after being on my own for the previous six years.) It was quite an adjustment but it was a good kick in the butt to have my own place again. And it could be worse. You could be married and living in your parent's basement. I've had friends who have had to go that route and it wasn't pretty.

You know, in other generations people used to live at home until they got married. If you're fortunate enough like your family -- which it sounds like you do -- it could actually be fun for a while. Plus, you never know the "whys" of things in the moment. . . it may be that some great opportunity will come out of this experience that you can't forsee. You said you're being more social, so who knows, right? Good luck with everything! -- j
