Happy Holidays?

Last night I was watching the news with my family. (weird, I know...I hate watching the news!) Anyway, the subject of the minute was in regards to the phrase "Merry Christmas". I guess there are a few stores in the U.S. who do not want their employees to utter this phrase. Due to the fact that not everyone they will encounter is Christian.

I agree. I have never been one to say Merry Christmas to people, unless I know them to be Christian. I think it is a matter of respect and tolerance. Naive as I may be, I actually thought this was a no-brainer.(see link in post title)

A few members of my family think that taking the phrase out of Christmas is taking Christ out of the holiday. Umm.. Sorry people, but unfortunately, I don't think Christmas has been for Christ for a very long time. (Generally speaking of course.)Otherwise, what the heck have we been doing buying each other gifts on someone else's birthday?!

I don't want to get into it here, cuz we could go on and on about the subject, but I just wanted to share my thoughts. To clear things up though, to me, Christmas is about family and my faith. To others it may not be about Christ, but I am sure that to the majority of the world, it is still about family. At least I would hope.

But, by saying "Happy Holidays", or "Seasons Greetings" I am including all holidays and all seasons, and what about that would offend the God I believe in? Where has tolerance gone in our society?
